Solution looking for a problem

Have you ever had an idea and had it criticized as "a solution looking
for a problem"?

If you are a leader in your organization and someone present an idea
and you find yourself about to say "that is nice, but there is no
business need that this idea addresses" you should stop and listen.
Listen and think. I challenge that the weakness in the idea is in the
presentation. When people come up with ideas they are addressing a
problem that the perceive. However in their anxiousness to make their
presentation they assume that everyone recognizes the problem.

So, listen and then call them back in a bit later and review with them
their idea as you have understood it and then focus on the problem or
business need the idea addresses.
